Love what the island offers, food, camping, a place to relax, and other activities. Water is warm for the summer and their is shallow and deep areas around the island. Good place to take Family and friends for a week of vacation.
My favorite place to camp. Only recently has there been any problems with raccoons or other nighttime visitors. Showers could use some work. Since there are no cars, kids can bike with no worries. Bright stars at night and so peaceful & quiet. The store has random hours that often don't match the posted hours. The sunsets are a must-see.
Great place to camp or moor a boat. Many services and lots of places to roam. Hot showers and nice people
Camp on Burton every August during the Leonid meteor shower. Beautiful setting with lake, leantos and paths to explore the island. Would give it 5/5 stars except for the raccoon visits last year. Since racoons can carry rabies, Parks Dept should relocate the raccoon population before some pet or child gets attacked and has to undergo treatment. Every night, raccoons would visit each lean to crashing pots and pans. We always prepare camp as if in bear country but we still lost hours of sleep as the group of raccoons moved from campsite to campsite. When they found food, they fight over it waking up half of the island. We lost hours of sleep chasing the racoons off with rocks and firewood.
What started as an accidental booking turned into a wonderful anniversary weekend get away. We managed to get a lean to that was on the waterfront; perfect for kayaking to our spot. Only a short .70 mile kayak trip from mainland to our spot. Our neighbors, while close, were nice and there were trees to separate us. The island is accessed only by boat or ferry. If you have a layak or canoe its a lovely trip. We also kayaked their 3 miles of shoreline and encountered a paur of osprey at Eagle's Bay. Amazing sunsets and pop-up thunderstorms proved calming while hammocking in the lean-to. We even had a loon visit our site!. With clean showers and bathrooms, friendly staff, and quiet nights, this is the best camp value ($81 for 3 days/2nights) you can get for waterfront and beach access away from cars and mainland hub-bub.
